Parish History

Sts Michael & Gabriel Orthodox Church was established in Sydney, Australia, with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Paul Saliba of the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia And New Zealand. Under the direction of Fr John Vesic, our liturgical services began on the 16th December 2001.

We are honoured to be the first Antiochian Orthodox parish in the state of New South Wales dedicated solely to preaching the Christian Orthodox faith in the English language. The parish, originally made up of over thirty committed families, has begun by using the facilities of St Columba’s Anglican Church, in Homebush West. After the lease had expired, the parish then moved to a community hall in West Ryde to continue worship.

Our worshipers represent a cross section of people of various ages, ethnic backgrounds, and are located throughout the greater Sydney Metropolitan.

To all of you who have supported Sts Michael & Gabriel Orthodox Church, thank you and may God grant you many years. Your contribution through prayers and offerings to the Church is greatly appreciated. May God bless you and your loved ones always.
